Correcaminos vs. Leon
LEON, Mexico (Interstat) — The Mexican LNBP season continues Thursday night as the Correcaminos visit the Leon club at Domo de la Feria. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. local time.
Correcaminos (8-10) enters the contest on a five-game losing streak after dropping a 89-75 decision at Aguascalientes on Oct. 2. In that defeat, point guard Damien Daniels, power forward Charles Garcia and shooting guard Troy Cracknell were the most productive players for the visiting side. The losing skid also includes a pair of double-digit losses to Fuerza Regia on Sept. 26-27 and two lopsided defeats at Diablos Rojos on Sept. 19-20. Correcaminos’ most recent victory came Sept. 14 at home against Gambusinos.
Leon (2-16) has struggled even more severely. The home team has dropped four straight since its lone recent bright spot, an 88-86 win at Xalapa on Sept. 14. Leon’s most recent outing was a 101-83 loss to Jal. Astros on Sept. 27, in which shooting guard Elijah Weaver, center Omar Miramontes and power forward Jorge Torres Vizcarrondo paced the squad. Leon’s only other win came Sept. 14 at Xalapa; before that, they had lost 10 consecutive games dating to late August.
Thursday’s matchup offers both clubs a chance to reverse their fortunes. Correcaminos will look to tighten its defense after allowing 101 or more points in three of its last five losses. Leon, meanwhile, must find consistent scoring after being held below 90 points in all but two of its 18 games.
Key performers to watch include Correcaminos’ Daniels, who has been a steady floor leader, and Cracknell’s perimeter shooting. For Leon, Weaver has carried the offensive load and Miramontes provides an interior presence. The game marks the first meeting between the two teams this season.
