GUASAVE, Mexico (Interstat) — The Jal. Astros will try to close out their CIBACOPA playoff series Tuesday night when they face the Guasave Frayles in Game 5 at Gimnasio Luis Estrada.
The Astros, who own the league’s best record at 76-13, lead the best-of-? series 3-1 after holding off Guasave 85-83 on Monday. A victory Tuesday would send Jal. to the next round; a loss would force Game 6 back in Jal.
Guasave (31-20) forced overtime in Game 2 on June 20 and won 89-82, but the Astros rebounded with two consecutive wins — 89-76 at home on June 17 and Monday’s one-point road win.

Nelson played all 39 minutes in Game 2’s overtime win, scoring 21 with eight rebounds. He also posted 15 points and five rebounds in Game 3 and 20 points and seven assists in a June 7 win at Obregon.
The series has been tightly contested. Guasave took Game 2 in overtime, and Monday’s game was decided by two points. Jal. won the first two games at home by double digits — 85-73 on June 16 and 89-76 on June 17.
During the regular season, the teams split a pair of two-game sets. Jal. swept a home series May 12-13, winning 103-93 and 93-81. Guasave lost both home games March 27-28, 106-99 and 103-95.
The Astros enter Tuesday with a 7-3 record in their past 10 games overall, while Guasave is 5-5 in its last 10. Jal. has outscored opponents by an average of 14.2 points per game this season; Guasave’s margin is plus-4.6.
