Obregon vs. Guasave
GUASAVE, Mexico (Interstat) — The Guasave Frayles host the Obregon club Wednesday night at Gimnasio Luis Estrada in a CIBACOPA matchup, with the home team holding a 28-17 record and the visitors sitting at 24-19.
Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time. Guasave has won four of the last six meetings between the two teams, including two consecutive victories over Obregon this past weekend: a 108-93 win Sunday and a 103-99 overtime victory Saturday.
Guasave’s D’Moi Hodge has been a key contributor in those wins, averaging 27 points, 5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in the two games. Over his last eight outings, the small forward has scored at least 10 points in each and topped 20 points five times.
Obregon counters with center Tony Farmer, who posted 15 points and 14 rebounds in Sunday’s loss and 29 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists in Saturday’s defeat. Farmer has recorded double-doubles in three of his last four games and has scored at least 22 points in three of his last five.
The Frayles swept a three-game road series at Los Mochis last week, winning 111-83, 89-75 and 100-94. Guasave’s overall season mark of 28-17 is the second-best in the league behind only Hermosillo.
Obregon split its most recent two-game road set against Los Mochis earlier in May, then dropped the two weekend games to Guasave. The club has compiled a 24-19 record but has struggled against top-tier opponents, losing five of its last seven against teams with winning records.
Wednesday’s game is the fifth meeting of the season between the two clubs. Obregon’s lone win in the series came March 21, a 94-76 home victory. Guasave has taken the last two in Obregon and won both games in Guasave in late April, 137-118 and 122-86.
Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. local time.
