Gimnasia Indalo vs. Quimsa

SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO, Argentina (Interstat) — Quimsa and Gimnasia Indalo, two of the top teams in the Argentine Liga A, meet Saturday at Estadio Ciudad de Santiago del Estero in a clash that could reshape the standings.

Quimsa enters with a 28-12 record, half a game ahead of second-place Gimnasia Indalo at 28-14. The home team has won three of its past four games, most recently a 94-83 victory at Boca Juniors on May 31. Forward Brandon Robinson led Quimsa with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists in that win. He has averaged 21.4 points over his past five games, including a 22-point effort against Boca on May 25 and 23 points in a May 19 win over Instituto Cordoba.

Gimnasia Indalo is coming off an 88-54 rout of Ferro Carril Oeste on Tuesday. Point guard Emiliano Toretta posted 12 points, six rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes. Toretta’s production has been uneven – he scored 21 points in a loss at Ferro on May 30 but managed just two points in a May 25 win against the same opponent. He had 15 points and three rebounds in a 70-74 loss at Ferro on May 28.

The teams split two meetings earlier this season. Quimsa won 92-82 at home on Feb. 8, while Gimnasia Indalo prevailed 86-78 on Dec. 18 in the return game. Saturday’s matchup marks the final regular-season meeting between the clubs.

Quimsa’s recent form includes a 92-99 loss at Boca on May 29 and a 91-78 home win over Boca on May 25. Gimnasia Indalo lost 73-81 and 70-74 in consecutive games at Ferro before bouncing back with Tuesday’s blowout win.

Tipoff is scheduled for 9 p.m. local time.
