CARACAS, Venezuela (Interstat) — Luis Montero scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked four shots to lead the Cocodrilos to a 64-61 victory over the Guaiqueries on Saturday at Gimnasio Jose Beracasa. J.D. Miller recorded 11 points and 13 rebounds for Caracas, which improved to 25-9. Margarita, now 22-14, was paced by Enrique Medina Roa’s seven points. The game featured four lead changes. Caracas led 19-14 after the first quarter, but Margarita outscored the hosts 24-21 in the second to trail 40-38 at halftime. The Guaiqueries took a 49-48 lead into the final period after holding Caracas to eight points in the third. The Cocodrilos responded with 16 points in the fourth to secure the win. Jhonny Tovar contributed nine points, Willie Reed four points and five rebounds, and Evert Bernal seven points for Caracas. Yohanner Sifontes added three points and three assists. The victory avenged three straight losses to Margarita earlier in the week.
