LA ASUNCION, Venezuela (Interstat) — The Guaiqueries defeated the Cocodrilos 71-64 on Wednesday at Gimnasio Ciudad de la Asuncion in a Venezuelan SLB contest. Margarita outscored Caracas 21-18 in the second quarter and 21-10 in the third to build a 61-49 lead entering the fourth. Caracas won the final period 15-10 but could not complete the comeback.

Luis Montero posted a double-double for Caracas with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Pedro Chourio contributed 14 points and eight rebounds for Margarita, while Juan Guerrero added 15 points and 11 rebounds. James Reese V scored 16 points and Gelvis Solano had 12. For Caracas, Jhonder Gomez scored 11 points, Luis Colon added 12, and Luis Bethelmy had 10 points and six rebounds. J.D. Miller added seven points and seven rebounds, and Willie Reed chipped in seven.

The victory improved Margarita’s record to 22-13, while Caracas fell to 24-9. The Guaiqueries have won three consecutive meetings against the Cocodrilos.
