Zulia vs. Anzoátegui
PUERTO LA CRUZ, Venezuela (Interstat) — The Anzoátegui Marinos host the Zulia Gaiteros on Tuesday in Game 4 of their Venezuelan SLB playoff series at Luis Ramos de Puerto La Cruz, with the Marinos holding a 2-0 lead after sweeping the first two games on the road.
Anzoátegui (19-11 overall) took Games 1 and 2 in Maracaibo, winning 89-86 on May 28 and 76-66 on May 29. The Marinos can clinch the series with a victory Tuesday. Zulia (24-7), the top seed in the regular season, has lost four of its past six games overall but remains dangerous behind forward Nahziah Carter.
Carter has been Zulia’s most consistent scorer, averaging 18.4 points over his past five games. In the May 29 loss, he logged 18 points, four rebounds and five assists in 33 minutes. He scored 26 points in a May 24 win over Maracaibo and has reached at least 16 points in six of his past seven outings. The Gaiteros will need a similar effort to extend the series.
Anzoátegui counters with center Malik Dime, who has been a force on the boards. Dime recorded a double-double in the May 29 victory with 10 points and 10 rebounds. He pulled down 20 rebounds in a May 21 win over Caracas Spartans and has posted at least nine rebounds in four of his past five games. His presence in the paint could neutralize Zulia’s interior offense.
The series shifted to Puerto La Cruz after the Marinos took control at Zulia’s home court. Tuesday’s contest tips off at 7 p.m. local time. The winner advances to the next round.
