Ciudad de Mexico vs. Tijuana

TIJUANA, Mexico (Interstat) — The Tijuana Zonkeys host Ciudad de Mexico on Friday night at Auditorio Fausto Gutierrez in a critical CIBACOPA matchup that could tilt playoff positioning.

Tijuana (21-21) holds a one-game lead over Ciudad de Mexico (21-22) in the standings. The Zonkeys won the most recent meeting Wednesday 96-84 at home, evening the season series at 3-3. The teams have split the last six games overall, with each winning three.

Ciudad de Mexico forward Trahson Burrell enters on a hot streak. Burrell posted 28 points, seven rebounds and two assists in Wednesday’s loss, following a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double in a 96-91 win at Tijuana on Tuesday. Over his past eight games, Burrell has averaged 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds.

Tijuana center Akia Pruitt also starred Wednesday, scoring 30 points with seven rebounds. Pruitt has been inconsistent, however, scoring 30 points, then 12, then five and 18 over his past four games against Ciudad de Mexico. He averages 11.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in eight games this month.

The Zonkeys have won four of their last five games overall, including sweeps of Obregon and Guaymas earlier in May. Ciudad de Mexico has lost four of its last six, with its lone wins coming Tuesday and on April 25 against Hermosillo.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time. The game will be the last regular-season meeting between the two divisional rivals before the playoffs begin.
