MARACAIBO (Interstat) — Myke Henry posted 15 points and 10 rebounds as Maracaibo defeated the Zulia Gaiteros 82-80 on Thursday in Venezuelan SLB play. Maracaibo jumped to a 28-20 lead in the first quarter and took a 52-43 advantage into halftime. Zulia, which entered with a league-best 22-4 record, rallied with a 22-16 third quarter and cut the deficit to 74-68 entering the fourth. The Gaiteros pulled within one point in the final minutes but could not overtake Maracaibo. Nahziah Carter led Zulia with 21 points. Amorie Archibald added 18 points and five assists for Maracaibo, while Luis Duarte scored 18 points for Zulia. Wilklerman Gomez contributed 15 points and Carlos Paez 17 for the hosts. Micheal Warren scored 12 points off the bench for Zulia, and Jesse Zarzuela added 13. Luis Herrera chipped in six points for Maracaibo. Maracaibo improved to 14-15 while Zulia fell to 22-5. The win avenged a 69-67 loss to Zulia on Tuesday.
