Ferro Carril Oeste vs. Regatas Corrientes
CORRIENTES, Argentina (Interstat) — Ferro Carril Oeste visits Regatas Corrientes on Friday in a key Argentinian Liga A matchup at Estadio Jose Jorge Conte, with both teams jockeying for postseason positioning.
Regatas Corrientes (22-13) holds a one-game edge in the standings over Ferro Carril Oeste (22-15), though the home team has won both previous meetings this season: 77-70 on March 23 in Corrientes and 79-77 on Dec. 18, 2025, in Buenos Aires.
Ferro Carril Oeste will rely on point guard Jano David Martinez, who has been a consistent playmaker. In his last six games, Martinez averaged 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 5.7 assists. He posted a near triple-double in Ferro’s most recent game, an 84-68 win at Peñarol on May 2, with 15 points, six rebounds and 10 assists in 32 minutes. However, he struggled two nights earlier in a 75-87 loss to the same Peñarol team, scoring just two points on 1-of-5 shooting in 21 minutes.
Ferro Carril Oeste’s supporting cast has also been productive. In the May 2 victory, forward Leonel Valentin Bettiga led the team with 16 points and five rebounds, while guard Jose Defelippo added 14 points, nine rebounds and one steal. The team enters Friday having won four of its last six games, including a 90-81 triumph at Boca Juniors on April 11.
Regatas Corrientes last played on April 19, a 93-69 blowout win at Argentino de Junin. Guard Juan Pablo Corbalan led the way with 17 points in 18 minutes, while forward Juan Palacios added 16 points and five rebounds. The team has won four of its last five, with the lone loss coming March 16 at Instituto Cordoba (97-67).
Regatas boasts a deep rotation, with guard Andres Jaime averaging 12 points and four assists over the past two games. The team has scored at least 89 points in three of its last four outings, a pace that could test Ferro’s defense.
Friday’s game tips off at 9 p.m. local time. A win for Regatas would push it three games ahead of Ferro in the standings, while a Ferro victory would create a tie atop the mid-table logjam.
