Argentino de Junin vs. Atenas
Argentino de Junin at Atenas
CÓRDOBA, Argentina (Interstat) — Atenas looks to build on a narrow victory when it hosts Argentino de Junin on Wednesday, May 6, at Polideportivo Municipal Carlos Cerutti in a Liga A matchup.
Atenas (13-23 overall) defeated Argentino de Junin 96-93 on Monday, May 4, in the teams’ most recent meeting. Guard Carlos Manuel Buendia paced Atenas in that game with 21 points, three rebounds and four assists in 27 minutes. Buendia has been productive over his past five games, averaging 14.4 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists, including a 21-point outing at Independiente on April 10.
Argentino de Junin (7-26) has lost 10 of its last 11 games. Its only victory in that stretch came April 14 against San Lorenzo. Guard Franco Balbi is a key contributor; he posted 11 points, seven rebounds and eight assists in the May 4 loss to Atenas.
The head-to-head series this season favors Atenas, which has won all three meetings: 96-93 on May 4, 109-71 on Jan. 19, and 84-66 on Oct. 8, 2025.
Atenas also won its previous two games before Monday’s victory (Interstat) — at Obera 82-78 on April 19 and at La Union 84-82 on April 17. The team’s other recent results include an 85-95 home win over Peñarol on March 31 and an overtime loss at Independiente 108-104 on April 10.
Argentino de Junin’s recent form includes losses to Regatas Corrientes (93-69 on April 19), Gimnasia Indalo (89-74 on April 17) and Obera (77-70 on April 12), with its lone bright spot the 80-70 win over San Lorenzo.
For Wednesday, Atenas will rely on Buendia’s scoring and playmaking, while center Nakye Sanders (Interstat) — who had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the May 4 game (Interstat) — provides interior presence. Argentino de Junin will look to Balbi and guard Jeremias Sandrini, who scored 14 points in Monday’s loss, to spark an upset.
Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. local time at the 3,500-seat arena.
