Flamengo vs. Nacional de Montevideo
Preview: Flamengo Looks to Reverse Fortunes Against Unbeaten Nacional in BCLA Americas Clash
MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (Interstat) — A stark contrast in momentum and history will collide Saturday when the unbeaten Nacional de Montevideo hosts Brazilian powerhouse Flamengo in a Basketball Champions League Americas matchup at Gran Parque Central Sports Center.
Nacional (8-0), riding a perfect season, has dominated the recent series against Flamengo (31-15). The Uruguayan side has won the last three head-to-head meetings, including an 89-79 victory on Feb. 8 and a 95-76 rout on Jan. 19, both this season. Their last encounter in December 2025 was a 75-63 win for Nacional.
Flamengo, however, enters with a more experienced and battle-tested roster, having played nearly 50 games this season. They are coming off a 95-75 home victory over Vasco da Gama on Tuesday, where guard Gui Deodato posted 15 points, six rebounds and five assists in 26 minutes. Deodato has been a consistent performer, averaging 17 points over his last four games, including a 17-point effort in a win over Paulistano on March 23.
Nacional, while less active, has been dominant in its limited schedule. Its most recent outing was a 96-75 win over Paisas Basket on March 14, led by Connor Zinaich’s 17-point, 13-rebound double-double and 17 points from James Feldeine. The team’s undefeated record, built on both domestic and continental success, adds a layer of confidence against a familiar foe.
For Flamengo, reversing the recent trend against Nacional is paramount. Their season, though successful overall, has shown recent vulnerabilities with losses in three of their last eight games, including narrow defeats to UNICEUB and Caxias do Sul. Finding consistency on both ends of the floor in a hostile road environment will be their key challenge.
The game tips off at 8:15 p.m. local time in La Blanqueada. Nacional will aim to protect its perfect record and maintain its psychological edge, while Flamengo seeks a statement victory to rewrite the recent narrative between the two BCLA Americas contenders.
