Sudbury vs. KW
Preview: Sudbury Five at KW Titans
SUDBURY, Ontario (Interstat) — The Sudbury Five will look to snap a three-game losing streak against the KW Titans when the Basketball Super League rivals meet again Sunday at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
The Titans (21-9) have dominated the recent series, winning the last three matchups, including a 113-104 victory just three days prior on their home floor. KW holds a 5-2 advantage in the season series.
Sudbury (14-11) arrives after a challenging stretch, having lost four of its last six games. Its fortunes have largely mirrored the performance of star forward Charlie Marquardt. In the recent loss to KW, Marquardt logged 44 minutes and scored a game-high 31 points. He is averaging 21.6 points over his last eight contests and will be the focal point of the Five’s offense as they seek to avoid a fourth straight defeat to the Titans.
KW counters with forward Tyshon Pickett, who torched Sudbury for 27 points in 29 minutes off the bench in Thursday’s win. Pickett has been efficient and explosive, scoring 22 or more points in four of his last five games. His matchup with Marquardt will be critical.
The Titans have established themselves as one of the league’s top teams, winning seven of their last ten games. Their balance was on display Thursday, with Ty Groce recording a double-double (10 points, 14 rebounds) and James Towns adding 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists alongside Pickett’s scoring punch.
For Sudbury, support for Marquardt will be essential. Duane Notice provided 18 points and seven assists in the last meeting, and center Alex Kotov added 13 points and six rebounds.
Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. EDT. With playoff positioning tightening, the Five aim to salvage a series split and prove they can solve the Titans, while KW looks to continue its ascent and solidify its hold near the top of the BSL standings.
