Saskatoon vs. Fraser Valley

LANGLEY, British Columbia (Interstat) — The Fraser Valley Bandits look to extend their dominance over the Saskatoon Mamba when the Canadian Elite Basketball League rivals meet Saturday at Langley Events Centre.

Fraser Valley (15-9) enters the 7 p.m. PT tipoff riding a two-game winning streak against Saskatoon this season, having won 105-85 on June 6 and 124-95 on May 14. The Bandits own the league’s second-best record, trailing only the top seed in the West Division.

Saskatoon (7-8) arrives after a 116-99 victory at Calgary on July 19, snapping a two-game losing skid. The Mamba sit near the bottom of the standings but have shown offensive firepower, averaging 101.0 points over their past three games.

Guard Tavian Dunn-Martin has been Saskatoon’s catalyst. In the win at Calgary, he posted 34 points and seven assists in 32 minutes. Over his previous two outings, he poured in 16 points, 11 assists against Winnipeg on June 30, and 22 points, six rebounds, four assists against Edmonton on June 28. Dunn-Martin is the team’s leading scorer this season.

Fraser Valley counters with forward Tyrese Samuel, a consistent double-double threat. In the Bandits’ most recent game, a 86-93 loss at Calgary on July 21, Samuel collected 20 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and one block. Over his last six games, he has averaged 17.3 points and 8.5 rebounds, including a 24-point, eight-rebound, six-assist effort in a 93-92 win over Montreal on July 17.

The Bandits will look to bounce back from a narrow loss at Calgary, where they shot 42.7% from the field and committed 14 turnovers. Guard Tevin Brown added 14 points and six rebounds in that game, while point guard Jarkel Joiner contributed 19 points.

Fraser Valley has been strong at home, with a 7-3 record at Langley Events Centre this season. Saskatoon is 3-5 on the road.

The Mamba will rely on a balanced attack beyond Dunn-Martin. In the win at Calgary, Jamir Chaplin scored 22 points with six rebounds, and center Jaden Bediako had 17 points and four boards.

After Saturday, Saskatoon travels to Edmonton on July 31. Fraser Valley visits Montreal on July 28.
