Saskatoon vs. Winnipeg

WINNIPEG (Interstat) — The Winnipeg Sea Bears look to tighten their grip on a playoff spot Tuesday when they host the Saskatoon Mamba in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup at Canada Life Centre.

Winnipeg enters the game at 10-8, while Saskatoon sits at 6-6. The season series is split at one win apiece. Winnipeg took the first meeting 108-96 at home on May 16, before Saskatoon answered with a 100-98 victory on May 29 in Saskatoon.

The Sea Bears will lean on guard Teddy Allen, who has been among the league’s most prolific scorers. Allen has posted at least 25 points in five of his last six games. He erupted for 36 points and 12 rebounds in a 114-81 win over Fraser Valley on June 18, following that with 25 points and seven rebounds in a 107-86 victory against Edmonton two days later. Allen also recorded 27 points, five rebounds and two assists in a 107-88 win at Calgary on June 14 and notched a 25-point, four-rebound outing against Calgary on June 12. Even in Winnipeg’s lone loss over that stretch — a 97-91 defeat at Montreal on June 5 — Allen produced a 33-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Saskatoon counters with center Jaden Bediako, who has been a consistent force in the paint. Bediako recorded a double-double in his last outing, a 115-108 loss to Edmonton on June 24, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds. He also posted 13 points and 12 rebounds in a 96-94 win over Ottawa on June 15, followed by 14 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in a 94-88 win at Calgary on June 10. Bediako’s strongest recent performance came in a 104-77 win at Niagara on June 19, where he scored 26 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Saskatoon enters on a one-game losing streak after the Edmonton defeat, but had won four straight prior. Winnipeg is coming off an 88-94 loss at Fraser Valley on June 27, snapping a three-game winning streak.

The teams meet again later in the season, but Tuesday’s contest could have significant standings implications as the CEBL regular season heads toward its final weeks. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT.
