Saskatoon vs. Fraser Valley

LANGLEY, British Columbia (Interstat) — The Fraser Valley Bandits (8-3) will host the Saskatoon Mamba (1-4) on Saturday at Langley Events Centre in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup set for 7 p.m. PDT.

Fraser Valley enters the contest riding a three-game winning streak, though the Bandits dropped their most recent outing, a 114-105 loss at Ottawa on Tuesday. Guard Jalen House has been a driving force for the Bandits, averaging 24.6 points and 11.2 assists over his last five games. In the loss at Ottawa, House logged 34 minutes, scoring 24 points with five rebounds and 12 assists. He previously posted a 32-point, 17-assist performance in a 111-88 win over Edmonton on May 22.

Saskatoon, meanwhile, has lost four of five games this season. The Mamba earned their lone victory on May 29, a 100-98 home win against Winnipeg, behind 17 points and 10 rebounds from center Jaden Bediako. Bediako, who also added a block in 23 minutes, will be a key presence in the paint against a Bandits team that has averaged 109.5 points over its last six outings.

The teams met just over three weeks ago, on May 14, when Fraser Valley routed Saskatoon 124-95 in Saskatchewan. The Bandits’ high-octane offense (Interstat) — fueled by House and guard Jarkel Joiner, who combined for 49 points in that game (Interstat) — overwhelmed the Mamba defense. Saskatoon has since struggled to find consistency, with losses at Scarborough (107-103), Montreal (93-80) and Winnipeg (108-96).

Fraser Valley’s roster also features forward Miller Kopp, who contributed 12 points and two rebounds in the Ottawa loss, and guard Jarkel Joiner, who scored 25 points in that same game. The Bandits’ depth has been a hallmark of their strong start, with six players averaging double figures in scoring through 11 games.

For Saskatoon, the supporting cast includes guard Tavian Dunn-Martin, who logged 21 points and eight assists in the win over Winnipeg, and shooting guard Jamir Chaplin, who added 18 points and six rebounds. The Mamba will need significant contributions beyond Bediako to keep pace with the Bandits’ fast tempo.

Saturday’s game marks the second of four meetings this season between the clubs. Saskatoon next travels to Calgary on June 10, while Fraser Valley hosts Ottawa on June 13.
