ARAGUA, Venezuela (Interstat) — The Margarita Guaiqueries, boasting a dominant 13-7 record across all competitions, face the struggling Portuguesa squad Wednesday night in a Venezuelan SLB matchup at Gimnasio Luis Ramos.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. local time.

Margarita enters the contest riding momentum from an 85-75 victory over Maracaibo on Sunday. The Guaiqueries have won four of their last five games, with their only loss during that stretch coming by three points against Falcons on April 25. Portuguesa, conversely, owns a 3-15 season record and dropped an 81-76 decision at Avila on Saturday, its fifth loss in six outings.

Forward Tyrone White has been a consistent force for Margarita. The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 17.7 points and 3.7 rebounds over his last three games, including a 23-point, five-rebound outing Sunday in 36 minutes. White has scored in double figures in seven of his last nine appearances, with a season-high 23 points against Maracaibo and 21 points April 15 at Caracas.

Guard Luis Martinez anchors Portuguesa. The shooting guard has led his team in scoring in four of the last five games, posting 26 points against Caracas on April 12, 25 points at Anzoátegui on April 19, and 24 points at Maracaibo on April 14. His all-around performance Saturday at Avila included 16 points, six rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes.

The teams met most recently on April 25, a game that was canceled with no score, and before that on March 20, when Margarita rolled to a 93-61 blowout victory at home.

Margarita’s supporting cast has also produced. Guard Gelvis Solano contributed 11 points, six rebounds and four assists Sunday, and forward Juan Guerrero added 15 points and five rebounds. Portuguesa’s Kelvin Pena chipped in 13 points and five assists in Saturday’s loss.

Wednesday’s game begins a pivotal stretch for both clubs. Margarita travels to Miranda on Friday, while Portuguesa faces a back-to-back against Miranda on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Guaiqueries aim to continue their climb up the SLB standings against a Portuguesa squad seeking its first win since April 21.
