Preview: Sudbury Five Host Montreal Toundra in Critical Basketball Super League Clash

SUDBURY, Ont. (Interstat) — The Sudbury Five and Montreal Toundra will meet for the third time in eight days Saturday in a pivotal late-season Basketball Super League matchup at Sudbury Community Arena.

The Five (11-9) hold a slim two-game lead over the Toundra (9-10) in the standings, adding urgency to the 7 p.m. ET tipoff. The season series is tied 2-2, with the last three meetings decided by a total of 11 points, including an overtime thriller last Saturday.

Sudbury won that March 28 contest 126-121 in overtime behind a standout performance from guard Duane Notice, who scored 27 points and dished six assists. Notice is averaging 18.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists over his last seven games and remains the focal point of the Five’s offense.

Montreal will look to power forward Kyle Steward to avenge the close loss. Steward torched Sudbury for 31 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 45 minutes last weekend. In four games against the Five this season, he is averaging 24.3 points and 5.8 rebounds.

The Toundra have lost three of their last four, including that overtime defeat here. Sudbury has also struggled recently, dropping three of its last four, most recently a 100-98 home loss to KW on Sunday.

Both teams feature potent offenses but have shown defensive vulnerabilities. Their last four matchups have averaged a combined 224.5 points. Montreal’s Tafari Beckford, who had 23 points in the last meeting, and Sudbury’s Charlie Marquardt, coming off a 21-point performance, provide critical secondary scoring.

With playoff positioning at stake, expect another high-paced, closely contested chapter in this developing rivalry. Sudbury aims to protect its home court and gain a crucial series edge, while Montreal seeks a road win to tighten the standings.
