Bayamon vs. Guaynabo

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico (Interstat) — The Bayamon Vaqueros visit the Guaynabo Mets on Thursday night at Mario Morales Coliseum in a Baloncesto Superior Nacional matchup that pits the league’s top team against a struggling home side.

Bayamon (14-6) enters the contest winners of three of its last four games, most recently a 95-70 rout of Manati on May 2. The Vaqueros boast the BSN’s best record and have won four of five road games this season. Forward Jae Crowder has been a consistent force, averaging 14.7 points and 7.3 rebounds over his last 10 appearances. In his most recent outing, Crowder posted 17 points, four rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes against Manati. He also recorded a double-double in the Vaqueros’ April 24 win at Santurce (25 points, 10 rebounds) and in an April 27 loss versus Caguas (16 points, 10 rebounds). Crowder logged 10 points and 10 rebounds when Bayamon defeated Guaynabo 88-73 on April 15 — the teams’ lone meeting this season.

Guaynabo (6-8) has been inconsistent, but comes off a 108-90 victory at Manati on May 4, snapping a three-game skid. Center Ismael Romero leads the Mets, averaging 20.1 points and 10.4 rebounds over his past eight games. In the win over Manati, Romero recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds. He had 27 points and 13 rebounds in an April 23 victory at Carolina. However, Romero struggled in the April 15 loss to Bayamon, finishing with 21 points but just eight rebounds and three fouls in 26 minutes.

The Vaqueros have won the last two meetings dating to last season. Guaynabo has lost four of its last five at home. Bayamon sits atop the BSN standings, while the Mets are tied for ninth in the 12-team league.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. AST. Bayamon will look to extend its dominance, while Guaynabo hopes Romero can spark an upset in front of the home crowd.
