Preview: Paisas Basket at Nacional de Montevideo

LA BLANQUEADA, Uruguay (Interstat) — An undefeated powerhouse hosts a struggling squad seeking revenge as Nacional de Montevideo faces Paisas Basket in a Basketball Champions League Americas matchup on Saturday.

The game tips off at 8 p.m. local time at the Gran Parque Central Sports Center.

Nacional (7-0) enters as the clear favorite, boasting the league’s only perfect record. The Uruguayan side narrowly defeated Paisas 97-94 last Friday in their first meeting of the season. Connor Zinaich led Nacional in that victory, recording a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. His interior presence will be a primary concern for the visitors.

Paisas Basket (3-4) looks to snap a two-game skid and solve the Nacional puzzle. Their offense runs through guard Romario Roque, who scored 23 points and dished four assists in the previous loss to Nacional. Support from Brandon Tabb (19 points) and Brandon Weatherspoon (15 points) will be crucial.

Beyond their head-to-head loss, Paisas has struggled with consistency, including a 53-point road defeat to Jal. Astros last month. Nacional, meanwhile, has displayed dominance, with notable wins over South American clubs Flamengo and Obras Sanitarias.

The rematch offers Paisas a quick opportunity for redemption, but they must find an answer for Zinaich and Nacional’s balanced attack on the road. A Nacional win would solidify its top standing, while a Paisas upset could reignite its postseason hopes.
