Fraser Valley vs. Winnipeg

WINNIPEG (Interstat) — The Canadian Elite Basketball League’s top two teams collide Thursday night when the Fraser Valley Bandits visit the Winnipeg Sea Bears at Canada Life Centre.

Fraser Valley (15-8) sits atop the league standings, one game ahead of Winnipeg (15-10) in the loss column. The Bandits have won three of their past four games, including a 93-92 thriller against Montreal on July 17 in which center Tyrese Samuel posted 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Samuel, a 6-foot-10 post presence, has been a consistent force, averaging 17.2 points and 9.2 rebounds over his last six outings. He recorded four double-doubles in that span, highlighted by a 20-point, 12-rebound effort in a narrow 94-93 loss to Edmonton on July 3.

Winnipeg counters with guard Teddy Allen, who erupted for 54 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in a 109-80 rout of Montreal on July 19. The 6-foot-6 swingman has scored at least 27 points in five of his last seven games, including a 38-point, 11-rebound performance against Saskatoon on June 30. Allen also tallied 27 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a 94-88 loss at Fraser Valley on June 27, the most recent meeting between the teams.

The Sea Bears have split their last six games, alternating wins and losses. They dropped a 93-85 decision at Calgary on July 17 before bouncing back with a 96-83 victory on July 15. Winnipeg’s offense has been potent, averaging 101.5 points over its last four wins, while allowing 86.3 points in its three losses over that stretch.

The Bandits have been strong on the road, winning three of their last four away from home. Their lone road defeat in that span came July 9 at Calgary, 95-80. Fraser Valley’s depth was on display in its July 17 win over Montreal, as center James Karnik contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Thursday’s matchup marks the third installment of the season series. The Bandits lead 2-0, having won 94-88 at home on June 27 and dropping an 81-114 decision on June 18 at Winnipeg — though the latter was a 33-point blowout where Allen scored 27 for the Sea Bears in just 35 minutes. The teams have split the last four meetings overall, with Fraser Valley winning 106-74 at home on Aug. 3, 2025.

Both teams are looking to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the regular season. Fraser Valley plays at Saskatoon on July 25, while Winnipeg hosts Hamilton that same day.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT.
