Ponce vs. Caguas

Preview: Ponce Leones at Caguas, BSN Basketball

CAGUAS, Puerto Rico (March 27, 2026) (Interstat) — The Ponce Leones will look to halt a three-game slide when they visit Caguas to open their 2026 Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN) schedule on Saturday, March 28.

The game marks the season debut for the home team. Caguas has not played a competitive game since June 22, 2025, a 99-87 road loss to Mayaguez. Their current record of 0-0 presents a stark contrast to Ponce’s early-season struggles in all competitions.

The visiting Leones (1-3) are reeling after a 82-68 road loss to Bayamon on Monday. That defeat was their third consecutive, following losses of 88-79 and 100-79 in a series dominated by Bayamon. Ponce’s lone victory this season was a 90-76 win over Bayamon on Aug. 5, 2025.

In Monday’s loss, Ponce relied on guards Michael Devoe and Matt Mooney, alongside forward Jordan Murphy, for its primary offensive production. That trio will need to generate more consistent scoring to improve the team’s fortunes.

For Caguas, the extended layoff raises questions about early-season chemistry and rhythm. Their last result from 2025 shows a team capable of scoring but also vulnerable defensively, surrendering 99 points.

This matchup opens a critical early stretch for both clubs. Following Saturday’s contest, Ponce embarks on a demanding 10-game sequence that includes road tests at Mayaguez, Quebradillas and Aguada. Caguas, meanwhile, begins its season with a back-to-back set against Santurce next week.

Saturday’s game will test whether Ponce can correct its course against a well-rested but untested Caguas squad, or if the home team can capitalize on its fresh legs to start the new campaign with a victory.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. AST at the Coliseo Héctor Solá Bezares in Caguas.
