Winnipeg vs. Calgary

CEBL: SEA BEARS AT SURGE

CALGARY (Interstat) — The Winnipeg Sea Bears (13-9) visit the Calgary Surge (11-14) on Friday, July 17, 2026, at WinSport Event Centre in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup that carries playoff implications for both teams.

Winnipeg enters the contest looking to avenge a 85-80 home loss to Calgary on Sunday, July 12. The Sea Bears have won four of their past six games overall, including a 107-96 victory over Saskatoon on June 30 and a 100-98 road win at Edmonton on July 5.

Calgary snapped a three-game losing streak with that victory over Winnipeg and has won two of its past three. The Surge are 7-5 at home this season and will be seeking their second consecutive win over the Sea Bears after dropping the previous two meetings (Interstat) — a 107-88 road loss on June 14 and a 92-72 defeat in Winnipeg on June 12.

Winnipeg’s Teddy Allen has been the Sea Bears’ most consistent offensive threat. The small forward has scored at least 27 points in six of his past seven games, including 28 points, seven rebounds and two assists in the July 12 loss to Calgary. Allen posted 33 points against Edmonton on July 9, 35 points at Edmonton on July 5, and 38 points with 11 rebounds against Saskatoon on June 30. He also recorded 36 points and 12 rebounds in a 114-81 win over Fraser Valley on June 18.

Calgary’s David Joplin has been productive in limited minutes. The small forward scored 16 points with six rebounds in 28 minutes during the July 12 win at Winnipeg, followed by 19 points and four rebounds in 32 minutes against Fraser Valley on July 9. Joplin’s playing time has fluctuated, but he has averaged 12.3 points over his past three games.

The Sea Bears enter the game with the third-best record in the CEBL, while Calgary sits in sixth place. Winnipeg’s next game is at home against Montreal on Sunday, July 19. Calgary hosts Saskatoon on the same day.
