Edmonton vs. Scarborough

SCARBOROUGH, Ontario (Interstat) — The Scarborough Shooting Stars host the Edmonton Stingers on Thursday in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

Scarborough (16-4) holds the league’s best record and seeks to bounce back from a 98-89 loss at Niagara on Friday. Edmonton (9-13) has lost three consecutive games, including a 112-94 defeat at home to Fraser Valley on Saturday. The Shooting Stars defeated the Stingers 95-78 in their last meeting on June 13 in Edmonton.

Scarborough forward Frank Mitchell will be a key player. Mitchell, a 6-foot-7 swingman, posted 24 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the loss at Niagara. He has recorded double-doubles in three of his past four games, including a 14-point, 22-rebound effort against Hamilton on June 27 and a 16-point, 12-rebound performance against Montreal on July 1. Mitchell is averaging near a double-double this season and anchors the Shooting Stars’ frontcourt alongside center Anthony Walker, who had 15 points and eight rebounds against Niagara. Guard Myles Powell added 15 points and five assists in that game.

Edmonton guard Scottie Lindsey leads the Stingers’ attack. Lindsey scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the loss to Fraser Valley, his highest-scoring output in his past seven games. The shooting guard has been productive despite the team’s recent struggles: he scored 11 points against Calgary on July 1 and 12 points at Saskatoon on June 24. Forward Emmanuel Bandoumel added 16 points and seven rebounds against Fraser Valley, and forward Nick Hornsby contributed 11 points and eight assists. The Stingers have lost four of their past five games, with their only win coming by one point at Fraser Valley on July 3.

Thursday’s game is the second of three scheduled meetings between the teams this season. Scarborough will look to protect its home court and maintain its hold on first place. Edmonton will seek to snap its losing streak and close the gap in the standings. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. EDT.
