Fraser Valley vs. Calgary
CALGARY (Interstat) — The Fraser Valley Bandits visit the Calgary Surge on Thursday in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup at WinSport Event Centre.
The Bandits (12-7) enter the game holding the second-best record in the CEBL, while the Surge (9-14) have struggled to find consistency this season. Calgary has lost six of its last seven games, including a 92-84 road victory over Fraser Valley on Sunday that snapped a three-game losing streak.
Forward Lloyd Kanda Pandi is a player to watch for the Bandits. In that Sunday win for Calgary, Pandi posted 16 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and one block in 32 minutes. He followed that with 5 points and one rebound in a 94-93 loss to Edmonton on Friday. Pandi has recorded double-doubles in two of his past three games and leads the Bandits in rebounding. His ability to control the glass and initiate offense from the high post will be critical against a Calgary defense that has allowed 95.3 points per game over its past four contests.
For the Surge, forward Addison Patterson has been the team’s most impactful player in recent outings. Patterson recorded 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the Sunday win over Fraser Valley, but has been inconsistent otherwise. He scored 20 points in a 95-87 loss at Edmonton on July 1 and tallied 4 points in a 96-92 loss at an undetermined location on July 3. The 6-foot-6 swingman is averaging 14.2 points and 4.8 rebounds over his last six appearances, but his scoring fluctuations mirror the team’s offensive struggles.
Thursday’s game marks the third meeting between the teams this season. Calgary won the most recent matchup 92-84 on Sunday, while Fraser Valley won the prior meeting 111-101 on May 24. The head-to-head has been closely contested, with the Surge winning two of the last three overall.
Fraser Valley is aiming to rebound from a loss to Edmonton and maintain its place near the top of the standings. Calgary looks to build on a rare win and string together consecutive victories for only the second time this season. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. MDT.
