Calgary vs. Fraser Valley
LANGLEY, British Columbia (Interstat) — The Fraser Valley Bandits host the Calgary Surge on Sunday at Langley Events Centre in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup that pits the league’s second-best record against a team fighting to stay afloat.
Fraser Valley (12-5) enters the 4 p.m. PDT tipoff riding a two-game winning streak, most recently defeating Winnipeg 94-88 on June 27. The Bandits boast the CEBL’s top point guard in Jarkel Joiner, who has been on a torrid scoring run. Joiner posted 34 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in that win over Winnipeg, and he poured in 37 points and seven assists in a 104-95 victory over Ottawa on June 13. Over his last six games, Joiner has averaged 25.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.0 assists, shooting efficiently from the floor. His ability to create his own shot and initiate the offense makes Fraser Valley dangerous in transition and half-court sets alike.
Calgary (8-13) has lost 10 of its last 11 games, the lone bright spot being a 102-99 home victory over Hamilton on June 17. The Surge dropped a 95-87 decision at Edmonton on July 1, their most recent outing. Small forward Addison Patterson has been a consistent contributor despite the team’s struggles. Patterson logged 21 minutes off the bench against Edmonton, scoring 20 points with five rebounds and two assists. He has reached double figures in five of his last six games, including a 16-point, two-rebound performance at Winnipeg on June 12. However, his production has been uneven — he managed only two points in 14 minutes against Montreal on June 20. Calgary will need Patterson to match Joiner’s output to keep pace with the high-scoring Bandits.
The teams met May 24 in Langley, with Fraser Valley winning 111-101. Calgary scored a 105-103 home victory against the Bandits on Aug. 16, 2025, but that result came before the Bandits’ current surge up the standings. The Surge have not won on the road since a 76-74 victory at Edmonton on May 24 and are 2-8 away from home this season.
After Sunday’s game, Calgary returns home to host Fraser Valley on July 9, then travels to Winnipeg on July 12. Fraser Valley plays at Edmonton on July 11 before visiting Calgary on July 9.
