Hamilton vs. Fraser Valley
LANGLEY, British Columbia (Interstat) — The Fraser Valley Bandits look to strengthen their hold atop the Canadian Elite Basketball League standings when they host the Hamilton Honey Badgers on Saturday at Langley Events Centre.
Fraser Valley enters the matchup with a 10-4 record across all competitions, while Hamilton sits at .500 with a 7-7 mark. The Bandits lead the season series 1-0 after a 93-87 victory at Hamilton on May 30.
Fraser Valley forward Mitchell Creek is the primary player to watch. In the Bandits’ most recent outing, a 108-105 home loss to Scarborough on June 15, Creek logged 34 minutes and posted 29 points, seven rebounds and four assists. He has been a consistent force for a team that has won five of its past seven games.
Hamilton guard Landers Nolley also demands attention. Nolley played 33 minutes in a 101-84 home loss to Niagara on June 15, finishing with 20 points, five rebounds and nine assists. In a 105-92 defeat at Montreal on June 10, he recorded 16 points, two rebounds and five assists in 30 minutes.
The Honey Badgers are riding a three-game losing streak after dropping a 102-99 decision at Calgary on June 17. Hamilton has shown offensive firepower during the skid, scoring at least 84 points in each loss, but defensive struggles have been costly. The Honey Badgers allowed 100 or more points in all three defeats.
Fraser Valley also is aiming to bounce back after its setback against Scarborough. The Bandits’ offense has been prolific, surpassing 100 points in six of their past seven games. Miller Kopp contributed 20 points and two rebounds in the loss to Scarborough, while guard Jalen House added 22 points in 20 minutes off the bench.
Saturday’s contest marks the second of three scheduled meetings between the teams. Fraser Valley’s strong start places it among the league’s elite, while Hamilton seeks to climb above .500 and build momentum ahead of a challenging stretch that includes road games at Scarborough, Ottawa and Montreal.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time.
