Hamilton vs. Scarborough
SCARBOROUGH, Ontario (Interstat) — The Scarborough Shooting Stars look to extend their dominance in the Canadian Elite Basketball League when they host the Hamilton Honey Badgers on Saturday, June 27, at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.
Scarborough (12-3) enters the game holding the league’s best record, while Hamilton (7-8) has struggled, losing four of its past five contests. The Shooting Stars are coming off a narrow 88-86 loss at Ottawa on Tuesday, but they had won three straight before that defeat. Hamilton dropped its most recent outing, 102-81 at Fraser Valley on June 20.
Scarborough shooting guard Javan Johnson has been a consistent offensive force. In his last five games, he has scored at least 18 points four times, including a 24-point effort against Ottawa. Over that stretch, he is averaging 19.2 points per game while also contributing on the boards and as a distributor.
For Hamilton, forward Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe provides a strong interior presence. He grabbed 14 rebounds and scored 10 points in the loss to Fraser Valley. Over his past seven games, Moncrieffe has recorded three double-doubles, though the Honey Badgers have lost six of those contests.
The teams have yet to meet this season. Scarborough’s high-octane offense (Interstat) — averaging 98.8 points per game in its wins (Interstat) — will test a Hamilton defense that has allowed 100 points or more in three of its last four losses.
Saturday’s game tips off at 7 p.m. ET.
