Montreal vs. Edmonton

EDMONTON, Alberta (Interstat) — The Edmonton Stingers host the Montreal Alliance on Wednesday night at Edmonton Expo Center, with both Canadian Elite Basketball League teams seeking to break out of losing streaks.

Edmonton (5-8) dropped its last outing 95-78 against Scarborough on Saturday, while Montreal (6-10) fell 93-75 at Niagara on the same day. The Stingers, however, own a decisive edge in the season series, having defeated the Alliance 98-78 in Montreal on June 7.

That game featured a dominant performance from Edmonton center Isaih Moore, who posted 27 points and 15 rebounds in 29 minutes. Moore has been inconsistent since, scoring 14 points with seven rebounds in the loss to Scarborough after a 10-point, six-rebound outing at Hamilton on June 3. He also had five points and two rebounds in a May 31 win at Calgary. Moore leads the Stingers in scoring and rebounding and will be a focal point against a Montreal frontcourt that surrendered 93 points to Niagara.

Montreal counters with forward Davion Warren, who has been the Alliance’s most productive player in recent games. Warren scored 18 points with six rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes at Niagara, following a 10-point, two-rebound effort in a 105-92 win over Hamilton on June 10. He struggled against Edmonton on June 7, managing just six points and two rebounds in 21 minutes. Warren has also posted 23 points and four rebounds in a win over Winnipeg on June 5. His ability to score from the wing will be critical for Montreal to keep pace with the Stingers.

The Alliance have lost four of their last five games, with the only win coming against Hamilton. Montreal’s defense has been porous, allowing 93 or more points in three of those contests. The Stingers have dropped two of their last three, both at home, and will look to regain momentum in front of their fans.

Wednesday’s matchup marks the second of three meetings between the teams this season. Montreal’s next game is Saturday at Calgary, while Edmonton travels to Winnipeg on Saturday.

Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. MDT.
