Ottawa vs. Fraser Valley
LANGLEY, British Columbia (Interstat) — The Fraser Valley Bandits host the Ottawa Blackjacks on Saturday in a Canadian Elite Basketball League matchup at Langley Events Centre.
Fraser Valley brings a league-best 9-3 record into the contest, while Ottawa sits at 6-6, hovering around .500. The Bandits have won three of their past four games, most recently a 105-85 victory over Saskatoon on Saturday. Ottawa, meanwhile, is coming off an 88-117 loss Thursday to Winnipeg, a defeat that snapped a two-game winning streak.
The teams met June 2 in Ottawa, where the Blackjacks earned a 114-105 victory behind a dominant performance from forward Matthew Cleveland. Cleveland logged 38 minutes, scoring 35 points with 10 rebounds and five assists. It was one of several strong outings for Cleveland, who is averaging 26.9 points over his past seven games and has recorded double-doubles in two of his past three contests.
For the Bandits, center Tyrese Samuel has been the focal point of a balanced attack. Samuel posted 22 points and nine rebounds in the win over Saskatoon and is averaging 19.9 points and 9.9 rebounds over his past seven games. He was held to 13 points and five rebounds in the June 2 loss to Ottawa.
Fraser Valley has won its past two home games by an average of 22.5 points. The Bandits’ only losses this season came on the road at Edmonton on May 16 and at Ottawa on June 2.
Ottawa will look to exploit Cleveland’s hot streak and even the season series, which Fraser Valley leads 1-1 dating to last August. The Blackjacks have won two of their past three road games.
Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT.
