Guaymas vs. Ciudad de Mexico

Preview: Ostioneros Visit Ciudad de Mexico in Key CIBACOPA Matchup

GUAYMAS, Sonora (Interstat) — Two teams seeking consistency will meet Friday when the Guaymas Ostioneros visit Ciudad de Mexico in a Mexican CIBACOPA basketball matchup.

Both clubs enter the contest with identical 3-5 records across all competitions, though Guaymas (3-4) holds a slight edge in the standings. The game is the first of a home-and-home set, with the teams scheduled to meet again in the capital on Saturday.

Guaymas looks to rebound from a 90-80 road loss to the Jalisco Astros on Monday. In that defeat, forward Shaheed Davis led the Ostioneros with 17 points and nine rebounds. Davis has been a consistent force, averaging 13.7 points and 7.3 rebounds over his last three games, including a 13-point, 9-rebound performance in an 83-78 win over Guasave on Feb. 28.

Ciudad de Mexico arrives with momentum from a dominant 118-92 victory at Culiacan on Sunday. Guard Antwan Kimmons powered that win with 25 points, six rebounds and three assists in just 28 minutes. Kimmons has been a high-volume scorer, averaging 18.1 points over his last eight contests. He erupted for 29 points and six assists in a 106-97 win over Guasave on Feb. 21.

The Ostioneros’ offense has shown balance beyond Davis. In Monday’s loss, Isaiah Powell added 17 points and Primo Spears contributed 14 points and six assists. Ciudad de Mexico also boasts secondary scoring, as evidenced by Daquan Bracey’s 21-point, 5-assist effort and Chuba Ohams’ 20-point, 11-rebound double-double in Sunday’s win.

Friday’s game will hinge on which team’s recent form holds. Can Ciudad de Mexico carry over its explosive offensive performance, or will Guaymas’ more balanced attack and the interior presence of Davis secure a critical road victory? Tip-off is scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026.
