Venados vs. Guasave

GUASAVE, Mexico (Interstat) — A pivotal early-season CIBACOPA matchup tips off Friday when the Guasave Frayles host the Venados at Gimnasio Luis Estrada.

The Frayles (5-3) enter with a winning record but are looking to rebound from a 78-83 road loss to Guaymas on Saturday. They will rely on the all-around play of forward Jemerrio Jones, who is averaging a near triple-double over his last five games. In the loss to Guaymas, Jones posted 11 points, 15 rebounds and five assists. His consistent rebounding and playmaking have been central to Guasave’s attack.

Venados (3-4) arrives with momentum after a 93-86 victory at Los Mochis, also on Saturday. Swingman Clyde Trapp led the way with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists in that win. Trapp has been a key performer, showcasing high-level versatility with a 23-point, 8-rebound, 10-assist effort in a win over Culiacan on Feb. 22.

The game features a contrast in recent form. Guasave had won three straight before Saturday’s setback, while Venados has alternated wins and losses over its past seven contests. The interior battle between Guasave’s Jones and Venados’ Latrell Jones, who scored 23 points in the last outing, will be critical.

This is the first of a quick home-and-home set between the teams, who will meet again in Guasave on Saturday. The Frayles hold a two-game lead over Venados in the standings, making this a chance for the visitors to gain ground or for the hosts to create further separation.

Tipoff is scheduled for Friday, March 6, 2026.
