Osasco Basquete vs. Corinthians

Preview: Osasco Basquete at Corinthians

SAO PAULO (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Tuesday when the last-place Osasco Basquete visits the playoff-bound Corinthians in a Brazilian NBB matchup at Ginasio Wlamir Marques.

The teams enter on vastly different trajectories. Corinthians (23-10) has solidified its position among the league’s elite, coming off a 74-69 victory over Pinheiros on Saturday. Osasco (5-29) is mired in a deep slump, having lost 10 of its last 11 games, including a 101-65 home defeat to Paraiba on Friday.

The head-to-head history, however, suggests potential for drama. When these teams met on Dec. 17, Corinthians escaped with an 81-80 road win. In their most recent encounter on Feb. 20, Corinthians needed a late push to secure an 83-79 home victory.

Osasco will lean heavily on center Hatila Passos, its most consistent performer during a difficult season. Passos is averaging a double-double over his last five games, including a 14-rebound effort in the loss to Paraiba. Guard Anthony Harris, who scored a team-high 14 points in that game, will need to provide supplemental scoring for a team averaging just 77.5 points per game in its last six outings.

Corinthians counters with forward Rafael Monteiro, a key two-way contributor. Monteiro is coming off a 14-point, 7-rebound performance in a win over Ulbra and has scored in double figures in three of his last five games. The team’s depth and defense, allowing an average of just 79.3 points during its current 7-3 stretch, pose a significant challenge for Osasco’s struggling offense.

For Osasco, the game represents a final opportunity to play spoiler against a top rival on the road. For Corinthians, it is a crucial chance to maintain momentum and secure its standing before a tough upcoming schedule that features a visit from Paulistano on Thursday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time.
