Cearense vs. Franca
FRANCA, Brazil (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Sunday when the powerhouse Franca hosts the struggling Cearense in a Brazilian Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) matchup at Ginásio Pedro Murilla Fuentes.
Franca (28-9) enters as one of the league’s elite, having won eight of its last ten games and coming off a dominant 114-95 victory over Paraiba on Thursday. Cearense (5-26) languishes at the opposite end of the standings, mired in a seven-game losing streak following a 91-77 road loss to Paulistano.
The head-to-head history further tilts toward the home side. In their most recent meeting on Nov. 23, 2025, Franca defeated Cearense 82-70.
Franca is led by dynamic guard George Lucas, who is coming off a near triple-double performance with 22 points, 10 assists and six rebounds against Paraiba. Lucas has been a consistent force, averaging a double-double over his last five contests and orchestrating one of the NBB’s most efficient offenses.
Cearense will rely on the scoring punch of guard Michael Dupree, who has been a bright spot during the team’s skid. Dupree is averaging 17.4 points per game over his last seven, including a 26-point effort against Pinheiros and 22 points in the loss to Paulistano. Support from Bernardo Da Silva and Rafael Alberton Rodrigues, who combined for 21 points and 17 rebounds in that last outing, will be essential.
The matchup presents a classic challenge of a high-octane offense against an overmatched defense. Franca’s balanced attack, which saw Lucas Dias Silva score 31 points and Luis Rodriguez add a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double last game, will test a Cearense team that has allowed an average of 92.4 points during its losing streak.
Tipoff is set for Sunday in Franca.
