Cearense vs. Minas
Preview: Cearense Faces Daunting Task at Minas in NBB Clash
BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (Interstat) — A stark contrast in fortunes will be on display Tuesday when the powerhouse Minas hosts the struggling Cearense in a Brazilian Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) matchup at Arena Vivo.
The home team, Minas (31-11), enters as one of the league’s elite, riding a wave of dominant form. They have won four consecutive games, including a 106-71 rout of Botafogo on April 9. Point guard Ricardo Fischer has been instrumental, averaging 13.5 points and 6.0 assists over his last four appearances while playing efficient, limited minutes. His backcourt leadership fuels a deep and potent Minas offense that has scored 100 or more points in three of its last four outings.
Conversely, Cearense (6-28) is mired at the bottom of the standings, having lost 10 of its last 11 games. Its most recent result was a 107-83 home loss to Caxias do Sul on April 6. The lone bright spot has been the consistent play of forward Bernardo Da Silva, who is coming off a stretch of heavy minutes and production. He averaged 15.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists over his last four games, including a 20-point, 9-rebound, 7-assist effort in a narrow 94-93 win over Corinthians on April 4.
History heavily favors Minas. In the teams’ most recent meeting on Dec. 27, 2025, Minas secured a 99-81 road victory. The matchup pits Cearense’s league-worst defense against one of the NBB’s most explosive attacks.
For Cearense to have any chance at an upset, Da Silva will need another herculean effort, and support must come from guards like Michael Dupree and Gabriel Fernandes, who combined for 38 points in the last game. Minas, however, boasts balanced scoring, with players like Yuri Neptune and Erik McCree capable of big nights alongside Fischer.
The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. local tip-off Tuesday at Arena Vivo in Belo Horizonte.
