Olimpico vs. Regatas Corrientes
Preview: Olimpico at Regatas Corrientes
CORRIENTES, Argentina (Interstat) — A surging Regatas Corrientes squad will host a struggling Olimpico team in an Argentinian Liga A matchup Friday at Estadio Jose Jorge Conte.
The home side (18-13) enters with a five-game winning streak and holds a clear advantage in the standings over Olimpico (13-18). Regatas Corrientes is coming off a narrow 79-77 victory over Obras Sanitarias on April 5, fueled by a 29-point performance from guard Juan Pablo Corbalan.
Corbalan has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 20 points over his last six games. His scoring punch will be central to the home team’s attack.
Olimpico, however, has shown recent signs of life, winning three of its last four contests, including an 87-78 win over La Union on April 5. The visiting team will rely heavily on forward Jose Ascanio, who is in stellar form. Ascanio is averaging 19.2 points and 8 rebounds over his last six outings, posting a double-double in two of those games.
The season series is tied, with Olimpico winning the most recent encounter 72-65 in overtime on Jan. 15. That result provides a sliver of confidence for the visitors despite the disparity in records.
For Regatas Corrientes, maintaining its defensive intensity will be key against an Olimpico offense that has topped 100 points once in its last six games. For Olimpico, containing Corbalan and finding secondary scoring behind Ascanio will be critical to pulling off the road upset.
Tipoff is scheduled for Friday night in Corrientes.
