Sante Fe vs. Peñarol
MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (Interstat) — Two Argentinian Liga A teams heading in opposite directions meet Saturday when Peñarol hosts Sante Fe at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas.
Peñarol (15-13) enters the contest in stronger form, having won four of its last six games, including a 107-102 road victory over Independiente on March 27. The home squad is led by guard Facundo Vazquez, who is averaging 11.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists over his last seven contests. He posted 15 points, five rebounds and four assists in a 95-85 road loss to Atenas on Tuesday.
Sante Fe (10-17) looks to snap a three-game skid and reverse a season of struggles. The visiting side has lost seven of its last eight, including a narrow 79-76 defeat to Obras Sanitarias on March 28. In that game, guard Emiliano Basabe scored 16 points with six rebounds. Basabe has been a consistent performer, notching a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds against Regatas Corrientes on March 26.
The teams last met on Nov. 19, 2025, with Peñarol securing an 82-63 road win. The venue shifts to Peñarol’s home court this time, where the team has gone 3-2 in its last five home games.
For Sante Fe, stopping Peñarol’s backcourt of Vazquez and Sean Armand, who scored 13 points against Atenas, will be critical. Peñarol will aim to contain Basabe and fellow guard Franco Balbi, who also scored 16 points in the last outing.
The game tips off at 8 p.m. local time. Following this matchup, Sante Fe travels to face Boca Juniors on Monday, while Peñarol’s next contest is at La Union on April 14.
