AVALLANEDA, Argentina (Interstat) — Peñarol upset Independiente 107-102 on Friday night, overcoming a strong home favorite in a back-and-forth Liga A matchup. The visitors built an early lead with 31 first-quarter points, but Independiente surged ahead by halftime. Peñarol reclaimed control in the third quarter and held off a late rally. Agustin Caffaro led all scorers with 19 points for Independiente. Peñarol had a balanced attack with six players scoring in double figures, led by Sean Armand’s 18 points and Facundo Vazquez’s nine assists.
