Racing de Chiv vs. Peñarol
Preview: Racing de Chiv at Peñarol in Liga A Clash
MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (Interstat) — A struggling Racing de Chiv squad looks to build on a rare victory when it visits a middling Peñarol club in Argentinian Liga A action on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
The game will be held at Polideportivo Islas Malvinas.
Racing de Chiv (6-18 overall) snapped a three-game skid with an 89-84 home win over Independiente on March 6. Peñarol (12-10) enters having won two of its last three, including a 79-72 victory over Platense on March 7.
The teams met just two months ago, with Peñarol escaping with a 91-85 overtime road win on Jan. 14.
A key matchup will feature in-form guards. Racing de Chiv’s Thomas Cooper is coming off a strong performance, scoring 21 points with seven rebounds and four assists in the win over Independiente. Over his last four games, Cooper is averaging 14.8 points.
He will be countered by Peñarol’s Luciano Guerra, who led his team with 18 points and four assists against Platense. Guerra has averaged 13.0 points and 3.5 assists over his last four contests.
For Racing de Chiv, support for Cooper in the Jan. 14 overtime loss came from Emilio Stucky (11 points, nine rebounds) and Joaquin Valinotti (12 points). Peñarol’s recent win was bolstered by Agustin Perez’s 19 points and Ivan Basualdo’s 12 rebounds and three blocks.
The visiting team’s season has been defined by narrow defeats, with five of its 18 losses coming by five points or fewer, including the recent overtime clash with Peñarol. Peñarol has shown more consistency but has struggled against top-tier competition.
Following this contest, Racing de Chiv hosts Sante Fe on March 16. Peñarol has a quick turnaround, hosting San Lorenzo on March 14.
