Preview: Racing de Chiv at San Martin, Liga A

CORRIENTES, Argentina (Interstat) — Two teams looking to halt slides will meet Sunday when San Martin hosts Racing de Chiv in Argentinian Liga A action at El Fortin Rojinegro.

San Martin (6-6) has dropped two straight, including a 67-59 home loss to Obera on Thursday. Forward Federico Aguerre, a key player to watch, led the team in that defeat with 18 points and seven rebounds. His production will be vital for a squad seeking consistency.

Racing de Chiv (3-10) enters on a three-game losing streak, most recently falling 76-65 to Instituto Cordoba on Tuesday. The visiting side will rely on forward Manuel Rodriguez Ortega, who recorded a double-double with 12 rebounds and nine points in that contest. He has posted double-doubles in two of his last three games.

The home team holds the clear advantage in the standings and will aim to protect its court against a struggling Racing de Chiv defense. San Martin’s offense, when functioning, has shown potency, scoring 91 points in a road win over La Union on Dec. 26.

For Racing de Chiv, stopping the skid requires improved scoring beyond Rodriguez Ortega. Guard Joaquin Valinotti (13 points) and forward Thomas Cooper (17 points) provided support last game and must contribute again.

This matchup begins a critical stretch for both clubs. San Martin plays again Tuesday at home against Independiente, while Racing de Chiv hosts Peñarol next Wednesday.
