Independiente vs. Regatas Corrientes

CORRIENTES, Argentina (Interstat) — A pivotal early-season Liga A clash tips off Sunday when Regatas Corrientes hosts Independiente at Estadio Jose Jorge Conte.

The matchup features two of the league’s hotter teams. The home side, Regatas Corrientes (9-5), carries a three-game winning streak, most recently defeating Obera 78-66 on Jan. 6. Independiente (8-4) arrives with momentum after an 83-75 victory over Olimpico on Thursday.

Player performances will be critical. For Independiente, point guard Francisco Conrradi is coming off a near triple-double, posting 16 points, nine rebounds and four assists in 28 minutes against Olimpico. His backcourt leadership will be tested by Regatas Corrientes’ backcourt anchor, Juan Pablo Corbalan. The shooting guard has been consistently productive, scoring 18 points in the win over Obera and 13 points with five assists in a Dec. 29 victory over San Martin.

Independiente’s recent form shows resilience, with close wins over Olimpico and Racing de Chiv, but also road losses to Platense and Sante Fe in early December. The team’s interior presence, Agustin Caffaro, who scored 20 points last game, will be key against a physical Regatas frontcourt.

Regatas Corrientes has found its rhythm after a mid-December stumble against Platense, winning convincingly in its last two home games by an average of 18 points. The team’s balanced attack is led by Corbalan, with support from Sebastian Lugo on the boards and playmaker Andres Jaime.

The game is the first of two regular-season meetings between the clubs, with the rematch scheduled for March 12 in Independiente. Sunday’s contest offers both squads a chance to solidify their standing near the top of the Liga A table ahead of a demanding January schedule.

For Regatas, a road test at Olimpico looms on Jan. 15. Independiente will travel to face San Martin on Jan. 13. Tip-off in Corrientes is set for Sunday evening.
