Paisas Basket vs. Jal. Astros

GUADALAJARA, Mexico (Interstat) — The surging Jal. Astros will look to continue their dominant run through the Basketball Champions League Americas when they host a familiar foe, Paisas Basket, on Tuesday at Unidad Deportiva Avila Camacho.

The Astros (27-6 across all competitions) have established themselves as a powerhouse, winning their last four games by an average margin of 41.5 points. Their most recent victory was a 100-92 win over these same Paisas just eight days ago on Feb. 2. In that contest, guard Daishon Smith led all scorers with 27 points in 25 minutes, showcasing the explosive offense that has defined Jal. Astros’ season.

Paisas Basket (2-2) arrives with a split record, having followed that loss to the Astros with a 107-91 road win at Caimanes del Llano on Feb. 3. The team relies heavily on forward Eric Crawford, who is coming off a strong performance of 22 points and 9 rebounds in that victory. However, Crawford was limited to 15 and 8 points, respectively, in the two prior meetings against Jal. Astros this season, both losses.

The head-to-head history heavily favors the hosts. In addition to the Feb. 2 win, the Astros routed Paisas 87-59 in their building on Jan. 29. Containing Smith will be a primary challenge for Paisas; the Astros’ guard is averaging 16 points in just 18.5 minutes per game over his last four outings.

For Paisas to have a chance, they will need another high-output game from Crawford and backcourt support from Jared Ruiz and Brandon Weatherspoon, who combined for 40 points and 15 assists in the win over Caimanes. The Astros, however, counter with a deep and balanced attack, as evidenced by Michael Carrera’s 18-point, 12-rebound double-double in the last matchup.

Tip-off is set for Tuesday night in Guadalajara as Paisas Basket seeks a statement road upset, while the Jal. Astros aim to maintain their commanding position in the league.
