Jal. Astros vs. Zacatecas
ZACATECAS, Mexico (Interstat) — The surging Jaliscos Astros, owners of the Mexican LNBP’s best record, look to complete a road sweep of the Zacatecas Mineros when the teams meet again Friday night at Marcelino Gonzalez arena.
The Astros (16-1) continued their dominant run through the league with a 78-66 victory over Zacatecas (9-6) just one night earlier. The win was their 10th straight, a streak in which they have won by an average margin of 16.2 points.
Point guard D.J. Cooper orchestrated the Thursday night win, dishing out 12 assists to go along with 10 points and four rebounds in 28 minutes. Forward Devin Davis added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Rigoberto Mendoza grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
Zacatecas, which has lost three of its last four, was led by Dexter McClanahan’s 19 points in the losing effort. Romeao Ferguson added 12 points.
The Mineros have struggled against the league’s elite, posting a 1-4 record against teams with winning records. Their defense will face a stern test against a potent Astros offense that has scored 100 or more points in five games this season.
Statistical models heavily favor another Astros victory. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 95-83 final score, while its ELO rating system gives Jaliscos a 78.2% probability to win.
Following Friday’s contest, Zacatecas remains home to host Aguascalientes next weekend. The Astros continue their road trip with a pair of games in Leon.
