MASON, Ohio (Interstat) — A four-run sixth inning propelled Xavier past Connecticut 5-1 on Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Big East Baseball Championship at Prasco Park. The Musketeers, who entered with a 28-28 record, struck first in the fourth inning. Valdes singled up the middle and later scored on a single through the right side by Fitz, giving Xavier a 1-0 lead.
