(Interstat) — Steven Smith drove in five runs and Appalachian State used an 11-run seventh inning to beat Troy 13-7 on Saturday in the first game of a Sun Belt doubleheader at Riddle-Pace Field. Smith went 2 for 5 with a double and five RBIs, bouncing back from an 0-for-4 performance earlier in the week. Ethan Puig added a three-run homer and three RBIs for the Mountaineers, who improved to 27-17 overall and 27-17 in Sun Belt play. Troy fell to 22-25 and 22-25.
