(Interstat) — The Saint Mary’s Gaels broke open a tight game with a six-run ninth inning to defeat the Santa Clara Broncos 8-4 on Saturday evening at Stephen Schott Stadium, securing a series victory. The game, played before 1,247 fans, was a pitcher’s duel for much of the afternoon until the Gaels’ offense erupted late. Saint Mary’s improved to 18-14 overall, while Santa Clara fell to 13-20.
