(Interstat) — The Gardner-Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs overcame an early three-run deficit with a relentless offensive performance, defeating the Valparaiso Beacons 7-3 on Friday at John Henry Moss Stadium in the opener of a doubleheader. The Beacons struck quickly in the first inning against Gardner-Webb starter Oliver Ellison. Brayden Pleau, Cooper Thom and Ryan Hatch strung together consecutive hits, with Hatch and Caleb Schembra each delivering RBI singles to give Valparaiso a 3-0 lead before many in the crowd had settled.
